Texas Car / Permit practice question · Road Signs
A sign shaped like a downward-pointing triangle (inverted triangle) tells you to:
Answer choices
- yield the right-of-way, slowing or stopping if needed before you proceed— Correct answer
- come to a full stop every time, even when the road is completely clear
- speed up to merge before other traffic arrives
- ignore cross traffic because you always have the right-of-way
Why this is the answer
An equilateral triangle shape is used only for yield signs, and red is the color for stop, yield, or do what the sign says. Yielding means letting other traffic and pedestrians have the right-of-way. Unlike at a stop sign, which requires every vehicle to come to a full stop, you stop at a yield sign only when you need to.
