Texas Car / Permit practice question · Right-of-Way
You have a green light (no arrow) and want to turn left across oncoming traffic. You must:
Answer choices
- yield to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians, then turn when it is safe— Correct answer
- turn quickly before oncoming cars reach the intersection
- assume oncoming traffic will stop for you
- wait until the light turns yellow to turn
Why this is the answer
A green light lets you go, but when you turn left on a plain green you have to give way to every vehicle coming toward you from the opposite direction before you turn. Watch for pedestrians too. Cars racing through to beat a red light are a danger. Turning on a green arrow, by contrast, protects you from oncoming traffic.
