Texas Car / Permit practice question · Handling Emergencies
Your engine stalls on a railroad crossing and a train is approaching. You should:
Answer choices
- get everyone out at once, move away from the tracks, then call for help— Correct answer
- stay in the car and keep trying to start the engine
- stand next to the car to wave the train down
- push the car forward along the tracks
Why this is the answer
If a train is coming and your car is stalled on the tracks, get out quickly and move away from the tracks, going toward the train's direction but off to the side, so flying debris misses you. Trains cannot stop at crossings. If no train is approaching, you may instead try to push the car off the tracks, or get help.
