California Car / Permit practice question · Handling Emergencies
If the high beams of an oncoming car are blinding you at night, you should:
Answer choices
- Look toward the right edge of your lane until it passes— Correct answer
- Stare directly at the oncoming headlights
- Switch on your own high beams
- Close your eyes for a moment
Why this is the answer
If an oncoming driver's high beams are too bright, do not look directly into the lights. Look toward the right edge of your lane and watch the other vehicle out of the corner of your eye. Switching on your own high beams in return only makes it harder for both of you to see, and closing your eyes is dangerous.
