Texas Car / Permit practice question · Signals & Pavement Markings
Overhead lane-control signals show a red X above one of the lanes on the road you are using. This tells you to:
Answer choices
- Use that lane only for passing slower vehicles
- Stay out of the lane under that signal— Correct answer
- Drive in that lane at a reduced speed
- Stop in that lane and wait for a green signal
Why this is the answer
Lane-use control signals are mounted over individual lanes. A red X above a lane tells you not to drive in that lane. A steady yellow X means get ready to leave the lane because a change is being made, and a steady green arrow pointing down means the lane is open to you. A red X is not a stop-and-wait signal.
