Texas Car / Permit practice question · Safe Driving Practices
Under the Texas 'Move Over or Slow Down' law, when you approach a stopped emergency, tow, or TxDOT vehicle with flashing lights, you must:
Answer choices
- keep your speed and hold your lane
- come to a complete stop in the road
- sound your horn to warn the workers you are passing
- move over a lane if you safely can, or slow to 20 mph below the posted speed limit— Correct answer
Why this is the answer
When an emergency, law enforcement, tow, TxDOT or similar vehicle is stopped with its lights on, you must either move out of the lane closest to it on a road with multiple lanes in your direction, or slow down. If you slow, go to 20 mph below the posted limit when the limit is 25 mph or more. Keeping your speed and lane is not allowed.
