Texas Car / Permit practice question · Alcohol & Drugs
Which of these will actually lower a person's blood alcohol concentration after drinking?
Answer choices
- only the passage of time— Correct answer
- drinking a cup of strong coffee
- taking a cold shower
- eating a large meal
Why this is the answer
Cold showers, black coffee and exercise will not sober someone up. Only the passage of time, which depends on body weight, how many drinks and how much food, lessens alcohol's effects, and it takes about one hour for the body to clear each drink. Caffeine may keep a tired driver alert, but a person who has been drinking should hand over the keys.
