Texas Car / Permit practice question · Road Signs
What should you understand when you see a yellow diamond-shaped sign showing one lane ending and merging?
Answer choices
- The overpass or structure ahead has limited height clearance.
- A yield sign is ahead; be prepared to yield.
- A traffic lane ends ahead; merge with the adjacent lane.— Correct answer
- A sharp turn in the road is ahead in the direction of the arrow.
Why this is the answer
A lane-ends sign warns that your lane stops ahead. Drivers in the right lane should merge into the left one. It is different from a sign for an additional lane, where you are not required to merge, and it is not a height-limit or yield warning. Look for a gap in the adjacent lane and move over in good time.
