1. A two-way street has a middle lane edged with yellow lines and painted with left-turn arrows pointing both ways. That lane exists for:
Correct answer: Left turns by drivers heading in either direction
A shared center lane lets drivers coming from either end of the street wait there before turning left. Using it to get around slower traffic is against the law.
2. Two solid white lines are painted between lanes that carry traffic the same way. What do they tell you?
Correct answer: Moving from one lane to the other across them is not permitted
A pair of unbroken white lines forbids lane changes altogether. Hold your position until the marking becomes a dashed white line, which is where moving over is permitted.
3. A steady yellow traffic light means:
Correct answer: The light is about to turn red, so stop if you can do so safely
A steady yellow warns that the signal is about to turn red. Stop if you can do so safely; enter the intersection only if you cannot stop in time.
4. A green arrow shown at a traffic signal means:
Correct answer: You may turn in the arrow's direction, yielding to vehicles and pedestrians in the intersection
A steady green arrow lets you turn the way it points, but you must still yield to any vehicles and pedestrians in the intersection. It is a yellow arrow, not a green one, that warns the turn phase is ending.
5. A flashing yellow traffic light or flashing yellow arrow tells you to:
Correct answer: Slow down and proceed with caution
A flashing yellow signal is a caution light. Slow down and proceed carefully, watching for cross traffic and pedestrians. A flashing yellow arrow means you may turn but must yield first.
6. A flashing red traffic light means that you should:
Correct answer: Stop, then go when it is safe, just like a stop sign
A flashing red light works the same as a stop sign. Come to a complete stop, yield to other traffic and pedestrians, then proceed when it is safe.
7. An overhead signal shows a lighted red X above the lane you are using. What must you do?
Correct answer: Leave that lane, because it is closed to you
Overhead lane signals say which lanes are open. A lit red X closes the lane beneath it, so you must get out of it; a green arrow marks a lane you are free to use.
8. What does a broken (dashed) white line between two lanes mean?
Correct answer: You may change lanes across it when it is safe
White lines separate lanes of traffic going the same direction. A broken white line means you may cross it to change lanes when it is safe to do so.
9. In a work zone, a flagger (traffic controller) is directing traffic by hand. You should:
Correct answer: Obey the flagger's directions to stop, slow down, or proceed
Flaggers work in construction and maintenance areas, where they stop, slow, or direct traffic through the site. Florida's handbook says that failing to slow down and use caution when a flagger directs you to is illegal and endangers the workers.

10. What does a steady (solid) red traffic light mean?
Correct answer: Stop and remain stopped until the light turns green
A steady red light means come to a complete stop behind the stop line and stay stopped until the light turns green and the way is clear.
11. A steady green traffic light means you may go, but first you must:
Correct answer: Yield to pedestrians and any vehicles still in the intersection
Green means go only when the way is clear. Yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk and to any vehicles still finishing their movement through the intersection before you proceed.
12. A solid yellow line on your side of the center of a two-way road means:
Correct answer: You may not cross it to pass another vehicle
Yellow lines separate traffic moving in opposite directions. A solid yellow line on your side means passing is not allowed there.
