Texas Car / Permit practice question · Handling Emergencies
If the back of your vehicle begins to skid, you should ease off the gas and:
Answer choices
- brake as hard as you can
- turn the wheel the opposite way from the skid
- hold the wheel straight and wait
- turn the wheel the same way the skid is going— Correct answer
Why this is the answer
When the car starts to skid, avoid hard, sudden braking. Lift your foot off the gas, steer in the direction the skid is going, and straighten the wheels gently as you regain control. Turning the opposite way would add to the spin. You can also prevent skids by slowing down when the road or weather is poor and keeping your tires in good shape.
